Oma E. Jacobs

After living nearly every day of her 94-plus years within sight of Heart Mountain, Oma Jacobs died on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the Powell Valley Care Center.

She was born in the family home north of Powell at the base of Polecat Bench on Feb. 24, 1922. Her parents, Morgan and Beatrice (Murphy) Royal, had two other children and later had another.

She attended Powell schools with a couple of interruptions when the family moved to North Carolina for short durations. Oma graduated from Powell High School in 1939.

In 1943, she married Kermit Jacobs, and they lived at various locations, farming around Powell and raising three children.

Kermit and Oma were married nearly 67 years prior to his death in 2010.

Oma was preceded in death by Kermit, her parents, brothers Roy and Larry, and sister Opal Jones.

Surviving family members include her daughters Sherry (Ken) Krause of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jeana (Dan) Gatch of Laurel, Montana; son Kim (Cindy) Jacobs of Powell; along with sisters-in-law Pat Jones and Barbara Werbelow and brother-in-law Larry Jacobs and many nephews and nieces. Oma had eight grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell. Memorial donations in Oma’s name can be made to the Powell Valley Care Center at 777 Avenue H, Powell, WY 82435.
