(Dec. 9, 1951 - Oct. 8, 2017)
Michael “Mike” C. Harris Sr., 65, died peacefully on Oct. 8, 2017, at his home in Wiley, Colorado, following an eight-month battle with lung and brain cancer.
Mike was born in Powell on Dec. 9, 1951, to Floyd and Donna Utter. Sadly, he barely got the chance to know his father before he was killed in a car accident when Mike was only 2 1/2 years old. Donna remarried and Mike and his younger brother, Kim, were adopted and raised by their step-father, Hollis Howard Harris.
Mike lived a full and adventurous life. Upon graduating high school with the class of 1970 in Worland, Mike worked in the oil fields for several years. He relocated to Lake Tahoe, Nevada, for a period of time in the ’80s and worked as a card dealer. Later, he bought a tractor trailer and traveled the country as an OTR owner/operator. In the ’90s, Mike relocated to Colorado, where he purchased a bar, which he operated for many years before selling it and moving his interest to the natural gas industry by launching WYCO Pump Sales & Repair.
Hard-working, tough, optimistic and big-hearted are all qualities that describe who Mike was, but he will be most remembered for his magnetic personality, charisma and great sense of humor. Always the life of the party with the ability to find common ground with anyone, he made a lasting impression on everyone he came in contact with.
Mike is survived by his wife Rebecca Harris; brother Kim (Marla) Harris of Lyman; sisters Holly (Greg) Jones of Hagerman, Idaho, and Shelly (Ed) Stebbins of Casper; sons Mike Jr. (Jenn) of Portland, Oregon, Jeremy Harris of Wiley, Colorado, and Jacob Harris of Lamar, Colorado; and two grandchildren, Elaina and Ethan Harris of Portland, Oregon.
Per Mike’s request, cremation will take place and there will be no viewing or funeral service. A celebration of his life was held on Wednesday in Wiley.
