(April 15, 1937 – Nov. 13, 2016)

Loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Jan Mayland passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the age of 79 while watching her beloved Seattle Seahawks win. She died from complications following a stroke.

Jan was born April 15, 1937 in Algona, Iowa to Maurice and Lydia Wallace.

While working in her family owned café in Spokane, she met the love of her life, Martin Mayland, an Airman from Fairchild AFB. They married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on January 17, 1956.  For 20 years, she was a very happy housewife and mother.

After their divorce in 1976, she supported herself and her children by working for Brown’s Home Furnishings, waitressing, and in the school lunchroom.

She moved to Shepherd, Montana with a very good friend for 10 years. She was very happy when she moved back to Greybull to be close to her family and friends again. After 7 years in Greybull, she decided to move to Powell and be closer to her baby, Lisa.

Jan was really looking forward to her 80th birthday present, which was a trip to Alaska with her children and spouses. Her family truly was the light of her life and the reason for living. Her grandkids brought such a tremendous joy to her and completed her life.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. When not spending time with her grandchildren, she enjoyed camping, reeling in fish, crafts, photography, and painting.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gloria; and brothers, Maurice and Terry. She is survived by her sister, Wanda; her children, Larry (Kathy) Mayland, Laurie (Ron) Wendling, and Lisa (Ed) Roberts; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Emblem Zion Lutheran Church with graveside services to follow at the Emblem Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Club in Greybull following the services.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made at River-Rail Community Credit Union, 400 North Sixth Street, Greybull, WY 82426 and will go to Billings Clinic Cancer Center in memory of Jan.

Atwood Family Funeral Directors assisted the family with the arrangements.
