Day one of the 3A State Wrestling Championships at the Casper Event Center is in the books, and three Panther wrestlers have advanced to the championship finals in their respective weight classes.

Reese Karst at 138 pounds, Brody Karhu at 152 pounds and Bo Dearcorn at 182 pounds will all wrestle for the state championship on Saturday.

As a team, Powell sits in third place with 127 points; Star Valley leads with 232 points, followed by Douglas with 137.5.

Karst decisioned Worland’s Tristen Lundgren 9-3 in the semifinals, and will square off against Gabriel Munoz of Rawlins for the title.

Karhu pinned Star Valley’s Tyson Hoopes in the first round of the semifinal match, and will face Lander’s Jack Sweeney for the 152-pound championship. All three of Karhu’s wins Friday were by first-round pin.

At 182 pounds, Dearcorn pinned Worland’s Isaac Goncalves at the 1:59 mark to advance to the title match. He will battle Star Valley’s Trent Clark for the title, a rematch of last week’s 3A West Regional title match.

Seth Horton reached the semifinals at 160 pounds, falling to Worland’s Luke Goncalves. Horton is automatically placed in the consolation semifinals Saturday, as is Corey Linebaugh at 132 pounds.

Wrestling in the consolation quarterfinals Saturday will be Colt Nicholson at 106 pounds, Trevor Feller at 120 pounds, Michael Maddox at 126 pounds, Cameron Schmidt at 170 pounds and Carson Olsen at 195 pounds.

Emma Karhu had a tough draw at 106 pounds, losing in the first round to Star Valley’s Jacob Guild. She won her first match in wrestlebacks against Mason Myers of Buffalo, but lost the next to Newcastle-Upton’s Blake Durfee, ending her tournament.

Also ending their seasons on Friday were Riley Bennett, Cole Davis, Evan Habeck, Duy Linh Hoang, Sawyer Mauthe and Logan Warner.
