Despite a spirited second half comeback, the Lady Trappers’ hopes for a Region IX title were not to be as Western Nebraska Community College held on for a 67-62 win in the Region IX semifinals Friday night at Casper College.

Like every other team that's faced Douglas' Lady Bearcats this season, the Lady Panthers came up short.

Thursday was a good day for the Powell basketball teams competing in Casper, as the Powell High School Lady Panthers beat Worland and Northwest College’s Lady Trappers knocked out Trinidad (Colorda) State Junior College.

NWC's postseason hopes cut short

For the first 30 minutes of Saturday’s Region IX play-in game against Central Wyoming, the Northwest College men’s basketball team did everything it needed to win.

The Powell High School freshman girls basketball team closed out its regular season with a win over Riverton, then took fourth at a tournament in Worland.

On his first official Friday as Northwest College women’s soccer coach, Bobby Peters decided to get a feel for his new school by attending the Region IX-North women’s basketball play-in game at Cabre Gym.

Lady Panthers state bound

The Powell High School girls basketball team finished as the runner-up at the 3A West Regional Basketball Tournament in Pinedale over the weekend. The Lady Panthers (17-7) beat Pinedale on Thursday, 44-25, and Lander on Friday, 55-44, before losing 43-39 to Star Valley in Saturday’s championship.

The Powell High School boys’ basketball team went 0-2 at the 3A West Regional Tournament over the weekend, bringing a conclusion to their season. But despite a losing (6-17) record for the season, the Panthers improved drastically.

Lady Trappers extend hoops season

The Northwest College women’s basketball team beat Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday 103-64 in the Region IX Tournament play-in game, earning a spot in next weekend’s Region IX Tournament at Casper College.

Trappers place eighth in nation

The Northwest College wrestling team placed eighth at the NJCAA National Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa last weekend, while bringing home four All-American titles.
