Panther gridders open season Friday against Douglas

On Friday night at 6 p.m., the Powell High School football team will host the first game of the season against the Douglas Bearcats.

A total of 20 Lady Panther swimmers dove into their swim season last week under the direction of new head coach Bob Smartt. 

Seniors to provide leadership to young squad

The Powell High School volleyball team started its season with two-a-day practices last week in preparation for the start of the season in Riverton on Friday and Saturday.

Little League Baseball started in 1938 with a three-team league in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, as a way for youth to play like the major leaguers of the day. Little League has grown and changed tremendously in the 79 years since then — and Gary Hatmaker saw many of those changes firsthand, across 50 years of coaching.

Mark Nuss and Pat Slater placed fifth in the Wyoming Walleye Stampede last weekend.

The Powell High School boys golf team got off to a strong start for the fall season — posting their best team score in three years at a Thursday-Friday home tournament.

Powell High School’s boys and girls tennis teams will feature many of the same faces this year — with 14 of their 16 varsity players hitting the courts again.

Getting an early start to the season, the Powell High School golfers kicked off practice on Monday and will host the first tournament of the year today (Thursday) and Friday. The fall season started a week earlier this year and will run for only five weeks.

Rayce Degraffenreid got a taste of the Little League World Series last month, playing in the stadiums that host the tournament while participating in a camp in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Powell Golf Club held its annual members club championship tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
