The Powell High School boys golf team got off to a strong start for the fall season — posting their best team score in three years at a Thursday-Friday home tournament.

Powell High School’s boys and girls tennis teams will feature many of the same faces this year — with 14 of their 16 varsity players hitting the courts again.

Getting an early start to the season, the Powell High School golfers kicked off practice on Monday and will host the first tournament of the year today (Thursday) and Friday. The fall season started a week earlier this year and will run for only five weeks.

Rayce Degraffenreid got a taste of the Little League World Series last month, playing in the stadiums that host the tournament while participating in a camp in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Powell Golf Club held its annual members club championship tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Around 60 competitors across 11 different classes between side-by-sides and dirt bikes raced at the Park County Fair’s Arenacross on Friday night.

The Powell Swim Club placed second in Division III with 210 points at the Summer State Championships in Gillette last month. A total of seven Powell swimmers attended the July 19-23 competition: Nathan Johnston, Karee Cooley, Kinley Cooley, Kacey Creed, Aiden Greenwald, Kaylen Greenwald and Josh Wright.

Ten four-man teams from the surrounding area came to the Park County Fair to compete in Thursday’s inaugural ranch rodeo. In addition to battling in four different events, awards for top hand and top horse were also handed out.

Local Minors and Majors standouts gain experience in Green River, each going 1-2

Powell’s Little League Minors and Majors All-Star baseball teams competed in the Wyoming District No. 1 Tournament in Green River last weekend, each winning one game and losing two to end their seasons.
