With just a couple of weeks to play in the regular season, the Northwest College women’s basketball team is poised to make a run in the playoffs, adding a pair of conference wins last week to push their record to 8-2 in Region IX North.

Freshman Emma Karhu is the first female wrestler at Powell High School, but her wrestling journey started at the age of 4, attending USA practices with her father and brother.

The Powell High School Panther basketball team split a pair of home games over the weekend, losing to Mountain View 56-49 on Friday, but beating Lyman 41-37 on Saturday.

The No. 6-ranked Cody Broncs wrestling team squared off against the No. 4 Powell Panthers Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the last home dual of the season for Powell. It came down to the final match, with the Broncs escaping with a 38-32 win.

The Powell High School girls’ basketball team has averaged 14.9 turnovers per game thus far in the season, but after a pair of losses at home last weekend against Mountain View and Lyman, that average is due to rise.

The Northwest College women’s basketball team collected a pair of conference wins last week. The Lady Trappers downed Sheridan College on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 56-46 at home, and Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday, 83-63 at Rock Springs.

Seniors Kacey Creed and Hudson Wilkerson each earned first place finishes over the weekend, as the Powell High School boys’ swim team swam to a second-place finish at the 3A West Conference Swimming and Diving Championship in Kemmerer on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Panther basketball team had their longest road trip of the season, playing Pinedale on Friday and Star Valley on Saturday. Powell came away with two wins, beating the Lady Wranglers 39-22 and the Lady Braves 63-57 in overtime.

The Powell High School wrestling team competed in back-to-back duals last week, losing to Worland 43-16 Thursday, but rebounding to beat Lander 62-15 Friday.

The No. 4 ranked Northwest College wrestling team lost to No. 6 Western Wyoming Community College during Friday’s 20th Annual Apodaca Dual Showdown.
