Seniors Kacey Creed and Hudson Wilkerson each earned first place finishes over the weekend, as the Powell High School boys’ swim team swam to a second-place finish at the 3A West Conference Swimming and Diving Championship in Kemmerer on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Panther basketball team had their longest road trip of the season, playing Pinedale on Friday and Star Valley on Saturday. Powell came away with two wins, beating the Lady Wranglers 39-22 and the Lady Braves 63-57 in overtime.
Last week was a busy one for the Powell High School boys’ swim team, which battled in three competitions and honored its seniors. The Panthers posted 38 personal best times and had two new state-qualifying events during their last week of competition before conference.
The Powell High School girls’ basketball team went 2-0 in a pair of weekend road games, beating cross-county rival Cody Fillies 39-27 on Friday and defeating Worland 43-38 on Saturday. The win over Cody made the Lady Panthers 3-0 in Class 3A West’s North Quadrant; Powell now has an overall record of 10-3.
On Friday and Saturday, the Powell High School wrestlers competed in Riverton at the Ron Thon Invitational. The annual tournament featured 39 teams from across the state, competing for the highly sought-after championship title in each weight class.
The Northwest College Lady Trappers traveled to Little Big Horn College Wednesday, Jan. 17, coming home with a 94-41 win. Then on Saturday, Miles Community College came to Cabre Gym and went back to Montana with a 68-55 victory.
Opening the conference portion of its season at home, the Powell High School girls’ basketball team picked up wins over Riverton on Friday and Lander on Saturday. The victories put the Lady Panthers’ record at 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Class 3A West’s North Quadrant.
