Bears battle into tiebreakThe Northwest College women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season last Tuesday in Billings. The Trappers knocked off the Rocky Mountain College JV squad by a 25-17, 21-25, 18-25, 25-22, 16-14 final count. Suriname freshman Sandrina Hunsel planted 20 kills onto the Rocky Mountain side of the net as the Trappers rallied from a 2-1 deficit in games to pick up their first victory in six tries this season.

Sophomores Mayara Conilho and Danielle York each chipped in with 13 kills. Sophomore Randi McInerney had four blocks while libero Valerie Lesu finished with 23 digs along the Trappers' back line.

The stats closely mirrored the distribution in Northwest's season-opening tournament at the College of Southern Idaho. In five matches in Idaho, Hunsel amassed 53 kills. York had 36. McInerney had 18 blocks against Northwest's five tournament opponents. Freshman setter Phoibe Fetu led the way with 61 assists. Sophomore transfer Allison Hart added 54 assists.

Northwest College was back in action over the weekend with an appearance at the Salt Lake tournament in Utah. The Trappers were scheduled to play four matches, all against teams ranked in the top 13 nationally.

Northwest makes its home debut for this season tonight (Tuesday) against Sheridan College in a Region IX North contest.

The Trappers may be without the services of sophomore Jessica Denney for that contest. The Clark native suffered an ankle sprain in practice that was expected to keep her shelved for roughly a week.
