The Powell High School wrestling team competed in back-to-back duals last week, losing to Worland 43-16 Thursday, but rebounding to beat Lander 62-15 Friday.
Worland 43, Powell 16
It was a battle of top-five teams on Thursday in Worland, as the fourth-ranked Panthers squared off against the No. 2 Warriors. Worland won 43-16.
The Panthers’ 16 points came by winning only three matches.
Bo Dearcorn, at 170 pounds, pinned his opponent in 1:27.
Duy Linh Hoang also pinned his opponent in 5:02 in the 220-pound class.
Emma Karhu, wrestling at 106 pounds, won by a 13-1 major decision.
Pins are worth six points and a major decision is four points.
Powell 62, Lander 15
The fifth-ranked Tigers battled against the Panthers on their home mat.
Eleven of the 14 matches were won by a fall.
The dual started at the 145-pound weight class with Reese Karst (ranked No. 1 at 138 pounds) pinning Jack Sweeney in 43 seconds.
At 152 pounds, Seth Horton (No. 6 at 145 pounds) pinned Kyler Lesher in 1:05.
Brody Karhu (No. 7 at 152 pounds), competing at 160 pounds, pinned DeAundre Velarde (No. 4) in 3:32.
With the first three matches won by pin, the Panthers jumped out to an 18-0 lead.
At 170 pounds, Dearcorn faced off against William Atnip (No. 1) and was pinned in 3:43.
Cameron Schmidt wrestled at 182 pounds and lost to Brody Dempster (No. 5) by a pin in 1:11.
At 195 pounds, Matthew Seckman pinned Austin Bennett (No. 5) in 1:24.
Hoang took on Keegan Whitesides at 220 pounds and won by a pin in 1:26.
At 285 pounds, Brandon Thompson (No. 7) pinned Johnny Friday in 2:53.
Emma Karhu wrestled Brady Carey (No. 4) at 106 pounds and lost by a 10-5 decision.
At 113 pounds, Trevor Fellers won by a pin over Conor Carey in 1:30.
Michael Maddox (No. 6) wrestled Adam Fulkerson in the 120 pound bout winning by a 9-3 decision.
At 126 pounds, Stephen Preator (No. 3) won by a 17-0 technical fall over Dylan DeBolt.
Corey Linebaugh pinned Kayden Heil in 1:16 at 132 pounds.
For the final match of the night, Matt Jones won by a fall in 3:04 over Eli Mazurie at 138 pounds.
The Panthers will host cross-county rival Cody tonight (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. The Broncs are the No. 6 team in the state, and this will be the last home dual of the season for the Panthers, who will be honoring their seniors.
