Many Lady Panthers among conference’s statistical leaders
Powell High School seniors Tayli Stenerson and Jennifer Bonander earned 3A West All-Conference honors for the 2016-17 basketball season.
Tayli Stenerson ended the season with 116 points (an average of five per game), which included leading the Lady Panthers with 18 3-point baskets. Tayli Stenerson also had a team-best 88 assists, averaging 3.8 per game, and 42 steals, averaging 2.1 per game.
In addition to leading the team, Tayli Stenerson topped the 3A West Conference with assists per game and came in third in all of Class 3A. Tayli Stenerson’s steals per game also put her ninth in the 3A West Conference.
Jennifer Bonander scored a total of 157 points this season (averaging 6.8 points per game), which was the second highest total on the team. Jennifer Bonander also ranked second with 24 blocked shots.
Bonander ranked sixth in Class 3A’s West Conference in blocks per game and sixth in 3-point shooting percentage (going 4-of-11 on the year for a 36 percent success rate).
Also making the top 10 in the 3A West Conference were Aubrie Stenerson, Maddy Hanks, Rachel Bonander and Dani Asay.
Sophomore Aubrie Stenerson ranked 10th in points scored, averaging 8.9 points per game, while leading the Lady Panthers with a total of 186 points. That included 16 3-point baskets from beyond the arc, where she shot 39 percent and ranked fourth within the conference.
Junior Hanks and sophomore Rachel Bonander tied for ninth place in the 3A West Conference with an average of six per game; they each tied for the team high with a total of 139 boards.
Hanks also finished fifth in the 3A West Conference and ninth in the state in assists — averaging 2.5 per game. Her total of 57 assists on the year put her second on the team.
Rachel Bonander finished third in the 3A West Conference and eighth in the state for blocked shots averaging 1.3 per game while having a team high of 29 on the season. She also finished second in the 3A West Conference and sixth in the state on field goal percentage, shooting at a 53 percent clip while scoring 153 points.
Senior Dani Asay, meanwhile, blocked 15 shots this season, for an average of 0.7 per game. That earned her the ninth place slot for the 3A West Conference.
