Junior All-Stars fundraising underway

Posted

Baseball players for the Junior All-Stars team have been out in the community fundraising for their trip to Western Regionals in Vancouver, Washington. The team departs on Aug. 1 for its first scheduled game on Aug. 4 versus the state champion team from Oregon and Friday, Aug. 5, versus the Southern California champion.

The team is trying to raise between $15,000 and $20,000 for the trip, the majority of which would be for hotel costs, head coach Matthew Lengfelder said. All told, the team will be on the road for 10 days.

ESPN will be at the tournament, games may be covered on ESPN2 or ESPN3, Lengfelder said.

“Our small community does a great job of supporting youth activities, which is a plus, but on the downside we are a small community and have to go back to many of the same sources that have funded other youth events,” Lengfelder said.

A lot of the businesses have stepped up and made committments to the team, Lengfelder said.

“Specifically, we would like to thank First Bank of Wyoming, Dr. Jake Merrill and Surf Wyoming,” Lengfelder said, noting that many other contributions have been made so far but there’s still more to go.

The team is trying to organize some type of community event, and more information on that will follow in coming editions of the Powell Tribune.

To make a donation, email mlengfelder@gmail.com or stop in at First Bank of Wyoming to make a contribution to the Little League Tournament Fund.
