At Thursday’s home quad relay meet that was mostly for fun, with such events as the hurdles relay, Powell also saw another state qualifier as Lexee Craig triple jumped 33 feet, 5.5 inches to stamp her ticket in a second event.

Craig had earned a spot at state in the pole vault at a meet three weeks ago to join seven other Panthers who have qualified.

Mason Olsen has stamped his ticket in the discus, Danna Hanks in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, Anissa Warner in the high, long and triple jumps as well as the 4x800 girls relay team of Teo Faulkner, Rachelle Cole, Dagne Stratton and Julia Kay O’Neill.

Powell then closed out the week with a strong, overall performance at the seven-team meet in Lovell on a bright and warm Saturday.

The girls finished second to the host Lady Bulldogs and the boys took first for the day.

Cole and Gabri Lundburg got some Panther points in the 400-meter dash, placing second and fifth, respectively, with O’Neill, Cole and Stratton then going first, fourth and fifth in the 800.

Faulkner soon got a win in the 1600, taking two seconds off her seed time with a 5:48, and 3200.

Powell then got three more scoring finishes in the 100-hurdles with Danna Hanks winning in 16.60 seconds, Craig taking third and freshman Mollie Kissner tying for fourth.

Maddy Hanks would get third in the 300-hurdles, with the 4x400 relay team of Cole, O’Neill, Kissner and Karlie McKenzie getting second in their event.

Maddy Hanks finished second in the pole vault, while Craig was third. Craig also got second in the long jump.

Lundburg just cleared 30 feet in the triple jump, landing at 30-feet, 2-inches to take fourth, and Haylee Ugalde bested her seed distance in the shot put by more than 2 feet, winning the event with a toss of 33 feet, 8 inches.

Freshman Rachel Bonander went 30 feet, 2.75 inches in the event to place fourth, finished fifth in the discus just behind fellow freshman and teammate Coby Calcotte whose throw went 87 feet, 9 inches.

On the boys side, sophomore A.J. Lewis had another busy and successful day, taking third in the 100-meter dash, second in the 200, winning the long jump (19 feet, 4 inches) and second in triple jump.

Mason Olsen got a win in the 400 with a time of 53.77, cutting more than two seconds off his seed time of 56.18.

Olsen would also take second in the shot put (43-6.25) and fourth in the discus (116-11.5), with Zach Easum going third in the shot put (42-1.25) and second in discus (126-5.25).

Elsewhere, freshman Joe Rogers was fifth in the 400 and senior Cody Akin sixth in the 800.

Powell then had four of the top six finishes in the 1600 with Alan Merritt finishing second, Jesse Erickson third, Jayden Yates fifth and Cesar Corro sixth.

Brandon Anderson and Merritt were the top two, respectively, in the 3200, and three more Panthers went top six in the 100-hurdles. Nate MaGill finished second in 16.92 seconds, with Paige Gann and Kolter McLaughlin going fifth and sixth.

Gann would take a razor-thin, second-place finish in the 300-hurdles, with his time of 43.15 seconds being just .09 off of the 43.06 posted by Gehrig Sweat of Rocky Mountain.

Powell won the 4x400 relay with Tegan Cordes, Rogers, Gann and Olsen, as well as Cordes, Merritt, Anderson and Akin winning the 4x800.

The 4x100 foursome of Easum, Jon Morrow, MaGill and Gann were second in their event, and the Panthers had three of the top six in both the high jump and pole vault.

McLaughlin, Jackson Griffin and Colby Warner were fourth and tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-6, respectively. Kaelan Groves went second in the pole vault at 10-feet-8, Jacob Harrison placed fifth (9-8) and Brooks Asher sixth (9-8).

Freshman Kanyon Gann finished second in the long jump (17-6.75) and fifth in the triple jump (36-9.5), with Dalton Woodward placing sixth in the long jump at 16 feet, .75 inches.

“We pulled Anissa (Warner) totally and Danna (Hanks) after the 100-hurdles with slight injuries,” head coach Scott Smith said. “They should be good to go for the track classic on Friday.”

Most of the team will be going to Meeteetse for a meet Saturday, though a handful will be heading to Casper for the annual Wyoming Track Classic on Friday.

“The track classic invites the top 10 entries, top eight in laned events, in all classes to compete,” Smith said. “Right now we have four that have qualified, with two more sitting 11th and they’d be first in if anyone declines the invitation.”

Danna Hanks (300-hurdles), O’Neill (800), Warner (high and triple jump) and Craig (pole vault) are qualified for Casper, while Maddy Hanks and Easum are those poised in the 11th slots.
