Jim Stringer inducted into WCA Hall of Fame

Former Powell High School head football coach Jim Stringer will be inducted into the High School and Middle School Coaches Hall of Fame by the Wyoming Coaches Association.

The induction will take place at the Wyoming Coaches Association Convention on July 24 in Casper.

Stringer, who was at the helm of Panther football from 2003-2014, helped PHS capture four Class 3A state championships — including three straight from 2011-2013 — and led the Panthers on a 27-game winning streak that ultimately ended last season.

Stringer died tragically in July 2014 after suffering a heart attack at his home in Powell. Stringer’s only son, 2015 PHS graduate Riley Stringer, who played four seasons of prep football under his father, said the induction is an honor not only to his father, but to his family as well.

“I’m happy to see it ... he definitely deserves it,” Stringer said. “His hard work and dedication ... he put a lot of time and money into his football, and I don’t think a lot of people truly understand how much time he really spent making his football teams better.”

Jim Stringer’s wife, Jill Stringer, said her late husband left behind a long-lasting effect on the Powell community, and believes the HOF induction is a reflection of that.

“It’s wonderful. It’s well deserved and I’m proud to see his legacy live on and to see him honored for his achievements,” she said. “His biggest impact was having four state championships and teaching his players success on the field but also success in life. And to always remain humble, grateful and appreciative of their accomplishments.

“And he always put family first.”
