Thumbs up to another successful Homesteader Days event, and to the ideal weather Mother Nature provided for the occasion.

Right up there with the November election itself, there’s drama playing out in legislative circles about who will be the face of leadership, particularly in the Wyoming House of Representatives, when the next legislative session convenes in January of 2017.

First responders honored in September

As America marked the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on Sunday, many of us clearly recalled memories from the terrible September day. We remembered the moments when we first heard that terrorists attacked our nation, and our sense of security came crumbling down.

We give a heartfelt thanks to law enforcement personnel who are encouraging Powell High School students and employees to buckle up when they get behind a wheel.

Did the primary election vote in August give us any kind of read on the prospect for passage of the 1-cent optional sales tax in Park County in November? Were people connecting any dots to the candidate positions on the sales tax?

Continue to be wary of scams, especially those targeting seniors

Con artists come in many forms today. Sometimes they pretend to be grandchildren in need. Other times they claim to be collecting donations for victims of a fire or other tragedy. As we have seen again recently, they also pose as officials with the IRS or another government agency.

In an unusual sequence of events, three search operations were underway simultaneously last week to find and rescue people who were lost or hurt in the Big Horn Mountains.

Though November is still a couple of months away, it’s safe to assume many of you are already tired of hearing about elections.

We were disappointed to report that not very many people showed up to the polls for the primary election on Aug. 16. Casting our votes during the primaries is just as important as deciding who the winner is on Election Day, and we’d like to see Park County residents be more active in local politics.

Classes start up again next week, both at Northwest College and in Powell schools.
