At 6’4”, NWC’s Julynne da Silva Sá a force to be reckoned with

On a team where the average player checks in at about 5’ 7”, Northwest College sophomore Julynne da Silva Sá isn’t hard to spot.

After winning five of their first six games to start the 2017-18 season, the Northwest College men’s basketball team has gone just 4-8 since. They opened Region IX play last week with losses to Western Wyoming Community College and Central Wyoming College.

The new year is in full swing, and many of us are struggling to adhere to our lofty resolutions, whether it be to quit smoking, take up a new hobby or just be nicer to those we wish would be nicer to us.

With one dissenting vote, trustees approve $3 million dorm project

After months of discussion, analysis and multiple architectural evaluations, the Northwest College Board of Trustees voted last week to move ahead with proposed repairs to water-damaged Cody Hall.

It wasn’t exactly love at first sight.

When Shelley, Idaho, native Kira Marlow chose Northwest College to continue her basketball career last year, the last thing she expected was to meet the love of her life, at least right away. The three-sport athlete had bigger fish to fry as she transitioned from high school to the collegiate game, and didn’t need any distractions.

A faulty electrical outlet is thought to be responsible for a house fire that claimed the life of a local man Saturday night in rural Powell.

Unfortunately, 2018 has already been a busy year for the Powell Volunteer Fire Department, with two structure fires inside a week. A local resident died in a home fire on Saturday night; a separate fire earlier in the week destroyed all of a homeowner’s belongings.

A media industry icon spent a couple of days in Park County in July, as veteran newsman Tom Brokaw was seen strolling the streets of downtown Powell and hanging out at the Park County Fair.
