Beginning January 2018, the Powell Tribune requires a flat fee of $50 for the publication of obituaries edited to comply with the Tribune’s format and standard 12 column inch length (350 words).
If a family requests an obituary of more than 12 column inches to run unedited, additional charges will apply, depending on length. (The rate is $6.50 per column inch, edited for Tribune style, or $13 per column inch unedited.) Death notices are free of charge.
Obituaries can include: the person’s birthplace, parents’ names, education background, military service information, wedding date/location, survivors, those who preceded the person in death. Personal details from his or her life also can be included — hobbies, interests, membership in organizations, church affiliation, employment, etc.
The obituary should include the age and/or birthdate of the deceased, when he or she died and the local connection to Powell.
One black-and-white photograph, cropped to show the person’s face, can be included with a standard obituary. If the person served in a branch of the U.S. Military, a veteran’s star also will be included. We ask that you please try to provide a high-resolution digital image or a clear photo to be scanned.
There is an additional charge of $25 per photo for multiple photographs to be included with an obituary.
Whenever possible, the Tribune will give the family or funeral home the opportunity to review the obituary before it is published.
For a Tuesday edition, the obituary and photo must be received by noon on Monday. For a Thursday edition, the deadline is noon on Wednesday.
An obituary can be sent electronically to [email protected] or mailed to the Powell Tribune, P.O. Box 70, Powell WY, 82435. For questions, please email Tessa Baker at [email protected] or call 307-754-2221.
If you would like an obituary submitted to another newspaper, the family or funeral home is responsible for sending it to other publications.
