Janice Ilene Kolb, 55, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, after a three-year battle with breast cancer.

Janice was born March 10, 1954, in Powell to Robert and Loretta Kolb. The second of four children, Janice had three brothers: Greg, Brad and Kenneth.

As a life-long Powell resident, Janice left an indelible mark on the community.

She was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was an able businesswoman who managed the family business, Food Basket IGA. In addition, she had a love for animals, especially her three dogs, and dedicated much of her time and energy volunteering at the Powell animal shelter.

She had many interests including water-skiing, camping, walking her dogs and watching movies with her grandson, Noah. But her favorite pastime was simply enjoying a barbecue or Saturday morning coffee with her family.

One of Janice’s favorite family traditions was spending Thanksgiving Day in the Big Horns cutting down Christmas trees.

Janice will be remembered as hard-working, generous, tough, funny and compassionate, and above all, as a person of great faith in Jesus.

Janice is survived by a daughter, Jessica Barlow of Powell; a son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Caitlin Barlow of Louisville, Ken.; two grandsons, Noah and Sojourn Barlow, both of Powell, and another grandchild to be born in March; her parents, Robert and Loretta Kolb of Powell; grandmother Sophie Winterholler of Lovell; brothers Greg Kolb (Belinda) of Cheyenne and Brad Kolb (Kerri) of Powell; niece Megan Kolb; nephews Ryan, Landin and Ostin Kolb; and many aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Kolb.

Janice wished for memorial donations to be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Memorial services were held on Monday, Dec. 28.
