Gene H. Boyle

Word has been received here of the death Oct. 3, 2002, in Mesa, Ariz., of Gene H. Boyle, former Powell resident. He was 79.

He was born April 4, 1923, in Cozad, Neb., son of Roy and Nellie Hunt Boyle. He was the seventh child in a family of 12. He moved with his family to Powell.

He attended elementary school in Powell and Powell High School and was a member of the St. Barbara's Parish and held office in Knights of Columbus. Mr. Boyle worked for Fred Keller Trucking Company, for Stanolind Oil & Gas and on numerous drilling projects in South Elk Basin.

In 1935, six members of the Boyle family were stricken with polio in Powell, resulting in the death of one of the Boyle children, Harvey.

In April of 1944, Gene Boyle married Darlene Babich. To that union were born two sons, Elwin Gene in 1945 and Rorie Rene in 1951.

In later years, Mr. Boyle worked in public school maintenance and construction in Richland, Wash., and Bellflower, Calif.

Survivors include his sons, Elwin Gene of Great Falls, Mont., and Rorie Rene of San Fernando, Philippines; grandson Jack Allen Boyle of Phoenix,; his third wife, Jennie; his sister, Mary Boyle Malliot of Garland; and brothers Ernest Boyle of Powell and Raymond Boyle of San Bernardino, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Nellie; siblings Edith, Albert, Frank, Louise, Harvey, Lois, Lawrence and Cecil; and second wife Ann.
