Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lovell for Lester L. Conner, 85, who died Sunday, Aug. 26 in the Powell Nursing Home.

The Rev. Chris Brandt will officiate at services and burial in the Lovell Cemetery.

Mr. Conner was born June 11, 1916, in Utica, Kans., to James F. (Frank) Conner and Ola Lacy (Alexander) Conner.

A farmer by occupation, he married Alice Ann Fetzer on June 13, 1942, in Red Lodge, Mont., and they lived in Powell and Lovell. He entered the U.S. Navy on Sept. 18, 1942, and served in World War II until his discharge on Oct. 30, 1945.

His first wife died in September of 1967, and he married Beula Maria (Rimby) Hawley on June 19, 1984, at Lander. They made their home in Powell since that time.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lovell, the VFW, American Legion Post 26 and the Powell Senior Center.

He loved to play cards and enjoyed going to the Powell Senior Center. He and Beula loved to dance, and he enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife Beula of Powell; three children, Jim and Karen Conner of Riverton, Gary and Lynn Conner of Raymond, Wash., and Tim and Sue Conner of Brookings, S.D.; four step-children, Nona Andersen of Casper, Larry Hawley and wife Sandy of Deming, N.M., Janice Harrison and husband Jan of Powell and John Hawley and wife Carolyn of Monument, Colo.; three sisters, Hazel Basinger of Burlington, Colo., Vera Curtis of Utica, Kans., and Leora Lockard of Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alice; three brothers and four sisters.

Pallbearers at the funeral will be Dan Fink, Wesley Conner, Larry Fetzer, Harold Fetzer, Larry Hawley and John Hawley.

Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
