Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 20 at 4 p.m. at the Byron LDS Ward Chapel for Florence Richeson Asay, 85, who died Monday, July 9 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The former Byron resident was born April 26, 1916, in Logan, Utah, to Travy Green and Eva Ballard Richeson. She earned a nursing degree in 1938 from the LDS School of Nursing in Idaho Falls. "Richie," as she was known in nurses training, and her classmate, Elsie Rigby, moved to Lovell to work for Dr. Edward Croft in his hospital. She met and later married Herbert Clifton (Clif) Asay on July 16, 1940, in the Logan, Utah Temple.

Richie, or "Asay" as she became known in Byron, worked in hospital and school nursing either full or part-time until retiring at age 65. She willingly responded to friends and neighbors who called upon her skills for emergency response, home care services or special duty nursing in a hospital. She assisted many in the Big Horn Basin at times of birth, death, illnesses or injury.

After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed their extended trips to do temple work in Idaho Falls and short visits with their children and grandchildren until his death in September of 1985.

Survivors include nine children; 33 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and a half brother, Roy Richeson of Salt Lake City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to Friday services. Haskell Funeral Home is in charge.
