Memorial services will be held in Deaver Friday, July 27 at 10 a.m. for a former resident, Larry J. Bement, 60, who died April 30 at Newport News, Va., of a brain tumor.

He was born May 14, 1941, in Missoula, Mont. He was 3 years old when his father died. When he was 11 years old, his mother married Harvey Homewood, and the family moved to the Homewood farm two miles north of Frannie.

Mr. Bement attended schools in Frannie and then graduated from Deaver High School in 1959 as the valedictorian of his class. He was active in band, playing the trombone, and in chorus. He was also on the football and basketball teams.

He then attended the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1963. He accepted employment with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Virginia where he was working at the time of his death.

He loved to go camping and fishing and spent part of his vacation each year in the Sunlight area of northwest Wyoming.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Bement, of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Cary Creal and husband Paul of Fort Hood, Texas; his mother, Ada Homewood of Frannie; an older brother, David Bement and wife Pat of Howe, Texas; a younger sister, Marie Spahn and husband Bill, of Pendleton, Ore.; six nieces and nephews; and eight great nieces and nephews.
