Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Powell for long-time Powell resident, Maude Maxine Hlavacheck, who died Thursday, Dec. 21 at the Powell Nursing Home. She was 84.
The Rev. Ron Kapalka will officiate at services and burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 6, 1916, at Morrison, Okla., to Joseph and Anna Josephine (Danielson) Sigler. Raised on a farm, she attended school and was graduated from Morrison High School.
She came to Wyoming as a young lady and married Henry J. (Hank) Hlavacheck on Oct. 23, 1937. To this union was born one daughter, Mary Jo Hlavacheck.
They lived west of Cody on the North Fork for a time, then moved in 1950 to the Powell area where they farmed for several years. When they retired from farming, they moved to Ralston. Mr. Hlavacheck died in July of 1987.
An active homemaker, she won many ribbons through the years at the county fairs for her canned goods, jellies, baking and handwork.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Powell, the Rebekah Lodge in Powell and the Ralston Club. She was also a member of the Wyoming District II Fiddlers Association for many years while her husband played the fiddle. In her younger years, she played the guitar with him.
She will be remembered as an excellent, loving and caring wife and mother, and she had many friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jo Hlavacheck in the Powell Nursing Home; two sisters, Betty Jo Shellady of Enid, Okla., and Anna Belle Adams of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two brothers.
