George Homer Shackelford, 85, formerly of Powell, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at the Eufaula Manor Nursing Home in Eufaula, Oklahoma. 

George was born on Feb. 29, 1932, in Poteau, Oklahoma, the son of William Henry and Margie Louis (McClain) Shackelford. He worked in the coal mine in his youth and then enlisted in the United States Navy. After the military, George became a welder. 

Survivors include his sisters, Wilda Stricklen and Ann Campbell both of Eufaula; his sisters-in-law, Lois Shackelford of California and Glenda Shackelford of Eufaula; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lawrence, Harrell, Wendell, Larry, Billy and Roy Dean; his sisters, Phyllis Bedford and Sharon Howell; one sister-in-law, Maudie Shackelford and three brothers-in-law, Jim Bedford, John Howell and Edward Campbell.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Kelley Memorial Chapel with Reverend Ronnie Drake officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
