John Gilford Stonehouse

John Gilford Stonehouse died on Sept. 5, 2017, at the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona. He was 74 years of age.

John was born in Cody, on Nov. 7, 1942, the first child of Irene (Way) Stonehouse and Mel Stonehouse. As a child, he spent time in the mountains with his father, and he loved cars and motorcycles.

John left home at a young age to join the Army. He served in Vietnam and was a member of the United States Army Special Forces. He was forever proud of his service as a Green Beret. He later served on the police force and S.W.A.T. team in Bremerton, Washington.

John spent most of his final years in Cody before moving to Arizona in 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mel and Irene. He is survived by his sister Kate Stonehouse Smith of Powell and his brother Rick (Jill) Stonehouse of Cody, as well as nieces, a nephew, and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cremation and interment will be at the Prescott Veterans’ Cemetery. Memorials may be sent in John’s name to the Green Beret Foundation (greenberetfoundation.org).
