(Aug. 24, 1923 - May 18, 2017)

Hope Greer Streeter, a longtime resident of the Powell and Cody area, died May 18, 2017, in Redding, California, with her loving daughter-in-law, Pamela Streeter by her side. She was 93.

Hope was born Aug. 24, 1923, in a little ranch house 20 miles from Burke, South Dakota, to parents John T. Greer and Jenny Dora Orr Greer.  She was the last of seven children.

She attended school in a one room school house and graduated as valedictorian of a class of four from Lucas High School in 1941. After graduating, she taught grade school in the area.

She married Elmer Ross Streeter April 7, 1947, in Powell. They owned a Standard service station here.   After Elmer’s death in 1964, Hope continued to run the station for a year and then went to work at Garland Light and Power for four years.

She then acquired an office job at Husky where she worked for a year before transferring to Husky’s airport office, where she worked for 12 years. Hope and partners Gene Ruskowsky and Cecile McMillan purchased the hangar from Husky and formed Spirit Mountain Aviation. They sold the business in 1995 when Hope was 72 years old.

Hope loved the outdoors. She took up skiing when she was 41 and skied until she was in her late 60s.  Camping was a favorite past-time and she continued to travel in her motorhome until age 88.  In December 2013, she moved to Redding, where her son, Rob, had provided a mother-in-law house for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings.

Hope is survived by her three children: John (Vicki) Wayne Streeter of Cody; Robert (Pamela) Ross Streeter of Redding, California; and Nancy (Gary) Ann Palay of Mount Prospect, Illinois; 10 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2025 23rd St. in Cody. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell.
