Knowing that a good outcome was unlikely, Peter wrote his own obituary a few weeks before he died. It follows:

Peter Torrey died on April 29, 2017, from colon cancer. He was 69 years old and supported for a little over two years by his lovely wife, Ruth.

Peter had Peter’s Cafe for 23 years. He enjoyed all the great patrons, morning and school lunchtime young adults, the regular soup and sub lunch customers and the summer ice cream seekers.

Peter is sure that the tremendous number of people who prayed for him and sent spiritual wishes extended his life and well being over the course of his illness. The close friends — Kathy and Bill, Jim and Julie, Jon and Vicky, and Mike and Margie — were instrumental in keeping him active and happy and are wonderful people. His three sisters and their spouses — Mary Jo and Tom Brown, Judy and Allen Carter, and Jean and Dave Adams — gave him reason to keep fighting and he loved them all. He appreciated them all, and Ruth’s family, for sticking by Ruth and him.

He appreciated the town of Cody and all of Wyoming for providing him with such a scenic and friendly place to live.

Cremation has taken place with Ballard Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Hope Lodge in Salt Lake City.

Peter hopes you travel lots, expand your definition of love and stay healthy.
