Floyd Robert ‘Bob’ Bales

Bob Bales, 79, of Cody, died peacefully at home Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, with his wife and children by his side after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Bob was born in Cody on Feb. 1, 1937, to Robert and Adelaide Bales.

Bob met the love of his life, Mary Lou Heny, at the bowling alley. They married in 1960 and had three beautiful children, Monte, Lonna and Wendy.

He went to Cody High School and was very active in sports. After graduating from CHS in 1955, he attended Northwest College. He proudly served in the National Guard.

After graduation, he worked at Burlington Northern Transport and Rustler Printing. He later worked as a draftsman for Graham Dietz Associates.

After retirement from GDA, Bob became a computer guru and, most notably, started sending out a weekly tradition of “Friday Flowers” via emails that were sent to hundreds of people worldwide.

He loved watching the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. Bowling was a favorite activity and he proudly bowled a 299. He was an amazing artist, cartoonist and photographer. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting and being with his family and friends.

Bob loved his family with a passion and never let a day go by without saying, “Do you know how much I love you?”

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Adelaide and his father, Robert.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou Bales; children Monte (Leslie) Bales of Cody, Lonna (John) Krebes of Cody, and Wendy (Corey) Tinken of Cody; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad Ball), Cory (Shiloh) Krebes, Hayden (Susan) Bales, Anna Bales, Sylvan Roberts, Seth Roberts, Brenda Tinken, and Devin Tinken; four great-grandchildren; brother James S. Bales and many relatives and friends.

A special viewing will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22,  at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody. Funeral services will be on Friday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church with graveside service following at Riverside Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Donations may be made to the Big Horn Basin Cancer Center, Medical Oncology Department, in Cody.
