Betty Sapp

(April 14, 1930 - Aug. 10, 2016)

A child of the Willwood, Betty Sapp was born April 14, 1930, to Marse and Anna Jane Sailor Christoffersen. She was a sister, daughter, mother, aunt, gentle caregiver, wise counsel and friend.

She died on Aug. 10, 2016, at the age of 86.

Betty grew up on the farm in the heart of the Great Depression. This experience gave her a strong will and a talent for making do — she could make the best things out of nothing and she could cook anything from any set of ingredients. Her childhood on the farm gave her a fine eye for the best things in life, not the finer things in life.

In 1949 Betty saw a handsome motorcyclist, William Sapp, and decided to ride into the adventure of marriage with him. As their children would later learn: Together, they were a force to be reckoned with.

They taught their children by quiet example to be good members of their community, to learn everything possible, to enjoy nature and to appreciate each other.

Betty loved a good project. She could sew, knit and crochet, but they were only her basic toolkit for launching many creative experiments. She had “do-it-yourself” figured out long before it became a fad. When she began making dolls, it wasn’t enough to pour someone else’s porcelain mold, she built her own.

Betty enjoyed being a mother to her own brood, and her six brought in many more. Kids, grandkids and great-grandkids gave her many hours of pleasure and, to the very end, she would often say “I have the best kids.”

Betty leaves behind her children Pat (Rexene), Tim (Cindy), Juanita, Wynona, Anna and Mike (Mary Ann), her siblings Robert Christoffersen and Ruth (Jim) Bell, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Angel and brothers Morston Christoffersen and J.W. Christoffersen.

For those who wish, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Heritage Health Center in Powell to facilitate future nonprofit hospice services.
