Michael Bruce (Fritz) Felsheim died unexpectedly at home after a brief illness, Wednesday, July 6, 2016. He was 62.

Mike was born Jan. 17, 1954, in Cody, to Fred W. and Betty J. Felsheim. He was the first baby born that year in Cody. Mike attended school in Cody and was a member of the Class of 1972. During his tenure at Cody High School, Mike excelled at swimming and had a deep-rooted passion for shop class, which led to his career as a master cabinet maker and craftsman.

In his younger years, Mike had a successful career working in the oil fields on drilling rigs. While starting in Cody, he eventually found himself traveling to various states, including Texas and Nevada. He was actually a driller on the Penrod rig that sunk a massive hole in Oregon Basin.

However, with the waning profits of the oil industry, he returned home and began to pursue his natural love of carpentry. Mike’s perfectionism of carpentry was second to none within the entirety of the Big Horn Basin. Over his nearly 40-year career, his hands touched many of the historic buildings around town that residents know and love.

When Mike wasn’t working, you could often find him fishing, cooking, or watching his favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers. Above all else, Mike’s unconditional love for animals was what gave his life purpose.

His eccentric personality and wild spirit will surely be missed by all.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and his mother.

He is survived by his older brother Fred, younger sisters Susan (Rick) Cover, and Sara Felsheim, nephew Spencer, niece Shelby, as well as his four-legged buddy Opie, all of Cody.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, July 15, at Brewgards in Cody. Everyone who knew Mike is invited to share your stories.
