Richard Lee ‘Dick’ Asher

Richard Lee Asher of Powell died on Saturday, July 2, 2016, in Cody. He was 91.

Dick was born Oct. 30, 1924, in Page, Nebraska, to Freida and Neil Asher.

He grew up in Page and received his education there. During World War II, Dick joined the U.S. Army in July 1943 at the age of 18, and he served until January 1946.

On Sept. 28, 1949, Dick married Lois Heiss. The couple raised four children and enjoyed more than 66 years of marriage.

Dick visited the Heart Mountain area when hunting in 1952, and fell in love with the area. He went home with a farm and moved to Heart Mountain in 1953. Dick worked many years as a farmer.

Dick attended First United Methodist Church in Powell. He was involved with the Powell Honor Guard, American Legion, Methodist Men, Good Sams and Mountain View Community Club.

Dick was honored to be part of the World War II Memorial Honor Flight in Washington, D.C., in 2009.

He enjoyed hunting, boating, snowmobiling and traveling.

Dick loved attending activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Lois; children Fred (Sharon) Asher of Laramie, Pam (Ron) Graves of Omaha, Nebraska, Rick (Sheila) Asher of Powell and John (Pam) Asher of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; sister-in-law Della Heiss; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Larry and Linda Heiss; and sister-in-law Diana Asher. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, July 8, at First United Methodist Church in Powell, with the Rev. Karen McRae officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are Brian Asher, Andrew Asher, Whitney Menning, Amber Asher, Cameron Asher, Alicia Quintana, Cody Asher, Casey Asher, Samantha Graves and Chris Graves.

Burial will be in Page, Nebraska, at a later date.

Memorials in Dick’s name can be sent to First United Methodist Church in Powell or another charity of your choice.

Thompson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
