Richard Sanderson, 82, died June 19, 2016 at his home in Powell.  He leaves behind his wife, Elise Kimble of Powell, and his ex-wife Elinor Sanderson and their son Morgan Sanderson of the Denver area.

Born in Sydney, Australia, he earned a degree in engineering from Sydney University and worked as an aeronautical engineer in England from 1955 to 1961 and in Denver from 1961 to 1972.  A career change to biological research included a doctorate from the University of Denver in 1974 and a position as assistant and then associate professor of microbiology at the Webb-Waring Lung Institute. At the time of retirement, he was course director for the microbiology/immunology course offered to dental students at UCHSC.

The out of doors nourished him and brought out a competitive side, especially in running.  He relished cross-country skiing and climbing mountains in Colorado and British Columbia.

A memorial gathering will be held in Colorado at a later date.
