Delores Kim Montgomery, 60, died June 5, 2016, in the care of Pikes Peak Hospice in Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado, due to pancreatic cancer.

Delores was born June 17, 1955, in Powell, to Glenn and Imogene Montgomery. She was the youngest of three children, and grew up on the farm homesteaded by Glenn and Imogene. She graduated from Powell High School and attended college in Torrington for a short time.

She returned to Powell and in April 1975 married James M. Cover. Their union produced one child, Christine M. Cover (Cashatt), but ended in divorce in 1994.

Delores remained in Powell, and enjoyed gardening and raising flocks of ducks, geese and peacocks. She worked for 17 years as a custodian at Northwest College. She loved the kids in the residence halls and was loved by many on the Residential Life staffs over the years. She would bake birthday cakes for the resident assistants and was close with many even after they had left the college. Delores retired from the college in June 2013, but in November 2013, she was diagnosed with dementia, forcing her to relocate to her daughter’s home in Colorado Springs. She was able to spend the last two and a half years of her life with her daughter and son-in-law.

She enjoyed crocheting animals for charity and spending time with her dog, Cookie.

Delores will be remembered as a strong, stubborn woman, with a beautiful smile. Although she battled some demons in her life, she was a good mother and friend, and a hard worker.

Delores was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Delynn, as well as her longtime companion, Gary R. Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter, Christine Cashatt (Jon) of Colorado Springs, and sister, Karen Ondak of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Cremation is taking place and no services are planned.

Memorial donations may be made to the animal rescue of the donor’s choice, or made in memory of Delores to Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill St., Colorado Springs, CO 80906.

Condolences may be sent to the family at Christie Cashatt 6940 Corn Tassle Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80911.
