Michael Henry Whitmore of Powell died March 17, 2016. He was 68.
Mike was born in Powell on July 31, 1947, to Henry and Alyce Whitmore. Mike spent his whole life in Powell, graduating from Powell High School in 1965.
In 1969, Mike married his best friend Sonya “Sonni” Smith. They were blessed with two daughters, to whom Mike was a devoted and loving father. He also was a proud grandfather to two grandsons.
Mike was a quiet, gentle man with a witty sense of humor. Forty-six years ago, he started a painting business, and enjoyed working with people all over town.
Mike took great joy in finding something old and refurbishing it. He spent countless hours restoring muscle cars, vintage gas pumps and motorcycles. Golf was one of his favorite activities, and he spent as much time as possible at the Powell Golf Course.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sonni Whitmore of Powell; his daughter Jennifer (Scott) Williams; grandsons Brycen and Brock, all of Billings; his mother Alyce Whitmore; sisters Deb Johnston of Powell and Kim (Tom) Allen of Roseburg, Oregon.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Henry Whitmore and daughter Jill Whitmore.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Spirit Mountain Hospice and Dr. Robert Chandler.
A family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Caring for Powell Animals, P.O. Box 504, Powell, WY 82435, or the Community Christmas Basket Program in care of Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce.
