Gary Zane Briggs died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the age of 72.

Gary was born in Cameron, West Virginia, the son of Glendon Earl and Ruby Louella (Midge) Briggs, on July 17, 1943, at the family home. He was baptized in the Christian faith in 1953. Gary became a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cody in 1974.

Upon graduating from high school in Cameron, he drove to Casper, to be with his older brother, Keith. Gary began working for Mountain Bell when he turned 18 and retired from ATT telephone company after 30 years of service.

Gary loved to go hunting, fishing, especially ice fishing. He also loved hearing from his grandchildren and when they came for a visit, playing cribbage, gardening and sharing his veggies with neighbors and friends.

Gary loved sitting down at a piano and playing “by ear” the songs he heard or ones requested.

Gary married Sandra Sue Vigansky on Aug. 7, 1964, at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Casper. They were blessed to celebrate 51 years together last year.

After living in Casper for six years, he was transferred to Cody, two weeks after the birth of his second son. Cody was his dream job even till death.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Grampa Briggs and Midge; brothers, Keith, Jack, Robert and Ernie Briggs; and sister, Mauna Verle Hicks.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi Briggs; sons, Steve Briggs of California, Larry Briggs (Amie) of Massachusetts; and daughter, Rae Ann Garrett (Will) of Colorado. He also is survived by sister Nina Fletcher (Richard) of West Virginia; 10 nieces and nephews; and seven grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial services were Monday, March 14, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cody.
