Shirley Ann Higbee Jacques, of Powell, died on Friday, February 26, 2016, at the Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington, of pancreatic cancer. She was 79. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was born on August 25, 1936, in Arkansas City, Kansas. She attended high school in Dexter, Kansas, and graduated in 1955. On August 23, 1959, she married Harry “Bud” Denton Jacques of Tribune, Kansas. They had 3 children, Jeffery Todd, Peggy Sue, and David Lee.

She is survived by her husband Bud; three children, Jeffery Todd Jacques of Astoria, Oregon, Peggy Sue Jacques Blasdell of Powell, and David Lee Jacques of Spokane, Washington; Jeff’s children, her grandchildren, Nicole Jacques of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in addition to Morgan and Kaitlyn Cousins of Laramie, Wyoming. She’s also survived by her sisters Kay Higbee Crow of Dexter, Kansas, Patty Higbee Duffy of Manhattan, Kansas, and Billie Higbee Ochsner of Tribune, Kansas.

Shirley lived in Powell from 1969 until her death in 2016. She worked as a Cook at the Powell Valley Hospital in Powell for 23 years and retired in 2002.

She will be remembered as a very dedicated and devoted Mother to her 3 children. Shirley’s hobbies included sewing, crocheting, quilting, bird watching and trout fishing on the Buffalo Bill Reservoir in Cody with her husband Bud.

Her greatest love of all outside of her children and grandchildren was reading. Shirley was a voracious reader; there wasn’t a day that went by in Shirley’s life that she didn’t have a book in her hand engrossed in a fiction or non-fiction book. The librarians at the Powell Branch Library knew Shirley well as she patronized it every 2 weeks for 37 years. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made in Shirley’s name to the:

Park County Library Foundation
