Lorraine was born April 5, 1926, in Mina, SD to Gerhard and Gertrude Artz.  She attended Sunnyside Rural School, Mina and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1944.

On June 11, 1946 she married John Francis Evelo of Aberdeen, SD at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen.  They lived for sixty years on a farm southeast of Aberdeen, where they raised nine children.

Lorraine and John loved to dance and on most Saturday nights would find them waltzing and doing the polka at the Moose Club. They also enjoyed visiting family, going on hunting trips and traveling internationally, including a visit to their ancestral Netherlands and a trip to Rome where they saw Pope John Paul II.

Lorraine dedicated her life to her family, her faith and her community. She was an ardent supporter of the Aberdeen Catholic Schools, and was actively involved in a wide range of charitable, community, and Catholic organizations.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and their son Richard; two brothers and two sisters and their spouses. She is survived by her sister and one sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was blessed by a large and loving family. Her surviving children include Lucille (Ron) Triem of Arlington, SD; Lyle (Vonda) Evelo of Powell, WY; Bernard (Jane) Evelo of Roundup, MT; Marietta (Nathan) Lakness of Hayti, SD; Michael (Sheryl) Evelo of Rhinelander, WI; Marie(Kevin) Steckelberg of Yankton, SD; Gary (Dee) Evelo of Anaheim, CA; and Patricia (David) Martin of Aberdeen, SD. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to the John and Lorraine Evelo Scholarship Fund, ACSS, 1400 N Dakota St, Aberdeen, SD 57401. It was their dream that every child could attend a catholic school.
