Terry (Doc) Moore, 72, of Cody, died Jan. 26, 2016, with his son Cody by his side at Billings Clinic.

He was born in Lansing, Michigan, June 13, 1943, to Robert and Roberta Moore.

His friends and family knew him as Doc — a nickname he got from his involvement in taxidermy work as a kid. He was known for his humor, sarcasm and wit. Doc would talk to and befriend anyone, and he always helped people.

Doc was a good man; he held the old qualities of honesty, integrity, dependability and kindness. Doc loved nature, animals, being outdoors and all of God’s creation. He loved fly fishing, hunting and training bird dogs.

A major highlight of Doc’s later life in Cody was purchasing a bright orange ATV (as he jokingly referred to as his “chick magnet”) and exploring the backcountry of Wyoming.

Doc was a very intelligent man, attaining a bachelor’s degree in printing management from Ferris State University and a master’s in trade technical education from University of Missouri.

Doc began his career teaching challenged high school students in co-ops in the graphic arts in Michigan and Casper.

In the later part of his career, he enjoyed being self-employed doing home repair, painting and construction.

The most memorable times of Doc’s life were spent working in Yellowstone National Park for six years. This is where his lifelong love of the West began and passed on to his son Cody.

More than his career, Doc was most proud of his volunteer work. He lived in Biloxi, Mississippi, for four years as a volunteer rebuilding houses after Katrina. He also volunteered with the East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Casting for Recovery, Wyoming Disabled Hunters and The Northwest Wyoming OHV Alliance.

He is survived by his son Cody of Colorado, his daughter Tana of Michigan, his older sister Amy of Indiana and many beloved friends in Cody.

A small gathering of Doc’s friends and family met at Our Place, his favorite restaurant, on Monday, Feb. 1, to celebrate his life.
