Roy Lee Carson died Jan. 16, 2016. He was 66.

Roy was born in Cody Sept. 26, 1949, to Louise Fernandez, and he grew up near Meeteetse. At the age of 10 he moved with his family to Gooseberry Creek because his stepfather, John Fernandez, worked for the LU Sheep Co.

The family later moved to Meeteetse and then Cody, and lived on the South Fork. He graduated from Cody High School in 1968.

Roy continued working on the family farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He went to Vietnam in June 1970 where he served for Alpha Co. 1st of the 506 101st Airborne Division. Roy served one tour and returned home as a military escort for his best friend Gary Fuqua, who died serving his country.

He finished out his service in Ft. Riley, Kansas, and was honorably discharged in September of that year.

Roy returned to Cody and met his “Senorita” in hunting camp where she was a cook. Roy and Elsa were married on June 23, 1972. They had two children, Tina and Clifton.

Roy was hired by Marathon Oil Co. in 1976 and worked in Oregon Basin Field until his illness.

Roy’s greatest joys were his family and helping others; he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved hunting, camping, fishing and hiking in his favorite areas in Sunlight. He was known by many for helping others and had a large and giving heart.

He attributed his greatest success in life to knowing his children and grandchildren knew and loved the Lord.

Roy was preceded in death by his mother Louise Fernandez and stepfather John Fernandez.

He is survived by his loving wife Elsa Carson of 44 years; daughter Tina (Jerry) Fink grandchildren Josh Schatz, Liliana Fink, son Clifton (Kelly) Carson grandchildren Ethan Carson and Alder Carson; brother Tom Allen, sister Beth Nolan, sister Elaine Aldous, sister Emma Melbraaten and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, Jan. 25, at Cody Missionary Alliance Church at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to Spirit Mountain Hospice.
