Jay Wollam, a longtime resident of the Powell area, died on Oct. 6, 2015.

Jay had been in a care home in Sun City West, Arizona, for a little over three years. Jay would have been 94 on Dec. 2, 2015.

He was born on Dec. 2, 1921, in Moorefield, Nebraska.

Jay was a Marine in World War II, and he spent three and a half years in a Japanese prison camp.

Jay and Esther McGonagle were married on June 1, 1947, in Powell. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Randy and Sherry.

The couple purchased a farm on Heart Mountain in 1958.

They later moved to Arizona because of Jay’s health.

Esther, son Randy and his wife, Shari, and daughter Sherry Wheeler were with Jay as he left to be with the Lord.

Jay is survived by his wife Esther; son Randy (Shari); daughter Sherry Wollam Wheeler; five grandchildren, Tuesdee, Trevon, Shauna, Dana and Kimberly; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son-in-law Danny Wheeler.

A memorial service was held at the Church on the Green in Sun City West, Arizona, on Oct. 12, with Pastor Peter Deleon officiating.
