Ernestine ‘Teen’ Edna Smith

Ernestine “Teen” Edna Smith, 93, died peacefully Sept. 29, 2015 at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin.

Teen was born in Crosby, Wyoming, on Jan. 15, 1922, to Robert Lee and Edna Pearl Nicholson. She was the only girl with brothers Charles, William and Tom.

She attended Grass Creek Elementary School and Thermopolis High School where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. Around 1935 the family moved to Meeteetse.

She met her lifelong love, Frank, while working at the Mercantile and they married on June 16, 1943, in Billings. They lived in Meeteetse on the Bar TL Ranch from 1946 until 1982 and then moved to town after Frank retired. They had celebrated 69 years of marriage shortly before Frank died in 2012.

Frank and Teen raised two children, Frank Lee and Frances Ann. They worked their entire lives providing for their family.

Ernestine cooked for the haying crews at the Bar TL. She loved to embroider and spent countless hours putting up food from the garden.

Ernestine was known throughout the area for her intricate wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes. She was a member of the Meeteetse Cowbells and Eastern Stars. 

Ernestine and Frank attended the Meeteetse Baptist Church for many years. 

Ernestine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her world revolved around her family.  She spent her entire life nurturing and caring for people. 

Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Charles, William and Tom. 

She is survived by her son Frank Lee “Smitty” (Wanda); daughter Frances Ann Williams; grandchildren Holly (Thor) Smith, Jenny (Grady) Rogge; Dawny Warner (Williams), Shannon Williams, Greg (Amy) Williams II; great-grandchildren Lacey and Crystal Smith; Aden and Drew Rogge, Cydney Cox, Kale Hammer, Kellen and Kohen Williams; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and family members.

Services for Ernestine will be held at 11 a.m. with public viewing at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody with interment following in the Meeteetse Cemetery.  A luncheon will be served immediately following burial at the Meeteetse Senior Citizens’ Center.
