George Gillett, 68, of Cody died Thursday, Sept 17, 2015.

George was born to Lee Gillett and Carolyn Smith in Powell on March 11, 1947. After graduating from Powell High School, he went on to join the Army and serve in Vietnam during the Vietnam war.

After his time in the service, he married Norma VanPetten in October 1969 and later welcomed two daughters, Stephanie and Teresa. He then graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in accounting in May 1975.

George and Norma made their home in Cody, where he made a living working as a certified public accountant for 32 years. Norma died Jan. 29, 2001, from a long battle with cancer.

George remarried Joan Hamilton in August 2001. The two were married for 14 years, and enjoyed frequent trips to Yellowstone National Park during the summer and getaways to Red Lodge, Montana, in the winter for a “five-dollar coffee.”

He is survived by his wife, Joan; sister, Gale (Jeff) White of North Bend, Washington; daughters, Stephanie (Jim) Eisenhauer of Sheridan; Teresa (Tim) Howard of Bismarck, North Dakota; stepchildren Pat (Stacey) Hamilton of Medford, Oregon; Shaun (Pam) Hamilton of Las Vegas; Theresa (Ron) Stevenson of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Megan, Matthew, Jenna, Ellie, Riley, Jennica, Meagan, Connor, Haylie, Taylor, Cody, Sarah, Jacob, Josh and Emily; nephews, Zachary White of Portland, Oregon; and Jessie (Christina) White of Kristiansand, Norway, as well as several great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Carolyn, sister Lee Ann, first wife Norma, and stepson Kelley Hamilton.

A vigil will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cody. A service will follow at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Ballard Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
