Lola Phyllis Asay Cheatham

Lola Phyllis Asay Cheatham, 79, died July 7, 2015, at the Powell Valley Care Center just six days after her husband, Dwain Smith Cheatham, passed away. A double funeral was held on July 8. 

Phyllis was born in Lovell on July 16, 1935, to Reed Asay and Lucy Alice Neves. She was fourth of nine children.

Phyllis attended Lovell schools, graduating from Lovell High School in 1953. She married Dwain Dec. 17, 1952, and raised five children. 

She was a talented teacher and served in many positions and capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Dwain served a mission for the church from 1994-95 in Nevada. Phyllis was an accomplished seamstress and quilter.

Phyllis is survived by her brother Ted Asay of Las Vegas; sisters, Carla Lowe of Toquerville, Utah; LuAnn Brandt of Heber City, Utah, and Cheri Frary of Virginia; and five children: Kim Cheatham and his wife Marie of Washington; Colleen Hawkins and her husband Bruce of Arkansas; Kendel Cheatham and his wife JoAnn of Powell; Karl and his wife Sally of Utah; and Camille Taylor and her husband Sam of Alaska. 

She also had 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, with more on the way.

She was preceeded in death by her brothers, Richard and Reed Asay; her sisters, Carol and Della Asay; and her husband of 62 years.

She was laid to rest in the Odessa Cemetery near Shell on July 8.

Arrangements were made by the Thompson Funeral Home of Powell who gave exceptional service in this unusual circumstance.
