(July 15, 1931 - July 9, 2015)

Richard C. Moore died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 9, with his wife and daughter at his side. He was 83.

Richard spent most of his life tending to the farm he cherished. Through the years he taught hardworking values, instilled knowledge and inspired his hardworking ethics to the family, including his son, Gene, and many grandsons, as well as their friends throughout the valley.

Richard was born in Worland on July 15, 1931.

He graduated from the Powell High School in 1949. Shortly after graduating high school, Richard joined the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Korean War. He served from July 1951 until October 1954. The first year he served on Kwajalein Island building the Cubic Point Airstrip, and served his remaining time in the Philippines.

Richard married Lydia Spomer in a double ceremony with Bonnie Morrison and Herschel (Kay) Robirds, in Billings on June 4, 1955. In the 60 years of marriage, they worked side-by-side along with their son, Gene.

Richard and Lydia spent their free time being as active as possible. Whether snowmobiling, fishing from a boat or on a stream while camping, the two were always together. Often in town, locals noticed another passion, the Goldwing Trike which could often be found parked in front of the Skyline Café where he and Lydia would meet with friends at the “round table.”

Richard was a member of the United Methodist Church for 50 years, and was a member of the Elks, Eagles, VFW and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents Agnes V. Moore, father Russell O. Moore, brother Dr. Russell Moore and sister-in-law Betsy Moore.

Richard is survived by his wife Lydia Moore; brothers Clifford of Seattle and Lawrence (Brooke) Moore of New Windsor, New York, son Gene Moore of Gillette, three daughters, Katherine (Cam) Henrichsen of Worland, Kimberly (Troy) Curtis of Worland, and Sherri (Larry) Simpson of Powell, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Powell. Lunch will be served following services at the Elks Club.

Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 778) or Caring for Powell Animals (P.O. Box 504) both in Powell, WY, 82435.

Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
