Raymond Louis Farwell, 76, died Friday, July 10, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his family.

Ray was the husband of Marilyn (Pudge) Farwell and they shared 54 years of marriage together. In those years, they reared two daughters and a son.

Ray was born on Nov. 18, 1939, in Powell to Ralph and Lenore (Steinlicht) Farwell. He attended Powell schools and graduated from Powell High School in 1957. He was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Powell, and was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cody.

Besides his family, Ray’s passion was farming. He started out on the original family homestead on East Willwood with his dad, and over the past 50 years grew the farm into what it is today.

Ray served on the Willwood Irrigation Board for many years and received the top 10 sugar beet grower award many times. He loved farming and collecting antique tractors. Ray will be remembered for his willingness to help anybody, his quiet, kind and loving nature and his love of the dirt and John Deere tractors.

Ray is survived by his wife Marilyn; brother Bill (Sarah) Farwell; his children Kelly (Mike) Bachand, Lori Farwell, Jerry (Dalyn) Farwell; grandchildren Tasha (Richard) Schlenker, Spencer (Andrea) Woody, Briann (Danny) Hite, Wyatt (Anisha) Farwell, Aspyn (Jace) Salutregui, Ciera Coleman, Hadley (Martin) Post, Tanner Coleman, Paige Farwell and “Aunt” Tammy Estes. He also is survived by 14 great-grandchildren.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lenore, his sister Roberta Farwell and many other family members.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 223 East Fifth Street in Powell. Graveside services will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Lane 9, just east of Powell.
