Charlotte Cramer died Jan. 25, 2015, in Yuma, Ariz., where she was visiting. She was 98.

Charlotte was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the youngest of four children born to Arthur Rush and Mary Will Rush.

After graduating from junior college, she married Hubert Nelson Cramer. They had one child, Sharon Lynn Cramer.

When Hubert was drafted into the Marines in World War II, Charlotte joined the work force as many young housewives did. When Hubert was discharged, he went back to his job as manager of Newberry’s (now K-Mart).

Charlotte’s brother wrote to say, “Come to Wyoming. They are building a dam in the Shoshoni and this area is going to boom.” They packed their worldly goods into a used Chevy, their first car, and headed west.

Charlotte was hired to be secretary for the Shoshone and Arapaho Indian tribes, and Hubert bought a filling station on the road to Yellowstone. When Charlotte’s hearing began to fail, she resigned and joined Hubert in managing the men’s clothing store that he had bought in Lander. After retirement, they spent winters in Yuma, Ariz., and came home to Lander in the summer. Hubert died in 1993.

Charlotte moved to Powell two years ago to be near her daughter, and was a resident of Rocky Mountain Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ethel Rush and brothers Wilbur Rush and James Rush.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter Sharon; grandson Lynn Charles (Sandy) Funkhouser; granddaughter Suzy Funkhouser Cox; and grandson Ronald Arthur (Denise) Funkhouser. She also is survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 14 (so far) great-great grandchildren.

Charlotte will be remembered by her friends for her cheerfulness and great sense of humor and by her family for her great generosity as well.

A private memorial service will take place this summer in Lander, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Hubert.
