George Horwath

George Horwath, a longtime Cody resident, died after a brief illness on Jan. 30, 2015. He was 91.

He began his life in Colville, Wash., as one of eight children born to George and Julia Horwath.  

He had a great love for his country and upon graduation from high school joined the United States Coast Guard. George served during WWII as well as the Korean War before settling in Cody. 

While he was employed at Husky Oil Refinery he met another employee who turned out to be the love of his life. Katherine and George were married on May 19, 1947, and enjoyed 67 wonderful years together.  

They had three daughters, Kathleen, Jo Anne and Donna. He loved his family and enjoyed life. He loved Cody and the state of Wyoming as well as traveling worldwide, fishing, hunting, camping and being outdoors. 

George served his community as a member of the Cody Volunteer Fire Department, the Cody Elks, the Cody Eagles and the Cody VFW. 

George is survived by his wife, Katherine; daughters Jo Anne (Charlie) Stickney of Thermopolis and Donna (David) Bailey of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and eldest daughter, Kathleen Wierzenski.

Services will be held at a later date. 

Cremation has taken place with Ballard Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Cody VFW.
