Lois Ann Thiel

Lois Ann Thiel died Nov. 16, 2014, at the Powell Valley Care Center. She was 84.

She was born July 21, 1930, in Bottineau, N.D., to David and Myrtle Velma.

She attended hairdressing school and then returned to Bottineau to work. She met Laurence Thiel while waiting tables in a local restaurant. They married on Nov. 27, 1948, in Bottineau.

Lois worked beside her husband for many years doing the bookkeeping for their business. They owned and operated the Phillips 66 gas station in Bottineau. Then they moved to Parshall, N.D., where Laurence managed a Great Plains Lumber Yard and Lois continued to do the bookkeeping.

In 1965 they purchased their own lumber yard and moved to McClusky, N.D. In 1982 they retired and moved to McAllen, Texas, where they lived for 10 years before moving to Cody in 1994.

Lois was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cody and was a member of the LWML. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and playing pinochle. She was very active at the Cody Senior Center, where she served on the Cody Council for Aging board for many years.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two grandsons, Jeremy Thiel and Brian Alexander.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children Larry (Marcia) of Bottineau, Jerry (Margo) of Cody, Brenda (Leroy) Ellis of Cody, Terry (Sandy) of Bismarck, N.D.; eight grandchildren, Jeff Thiel, Jennifer Thiel, Jolyn Haye, Melissa Payton, Kip Thiel, Cory Alexander, Eric Alexander, and Katie Winke; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vonda Olson and Avonne (Harold) Gessner, all of Bottineau; brother-in-law Melvin (Betty) Thiel of Rugby, N.D.; sister-in-law Arlene (George) Hanson of Minot, N.D.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held Thursday, Nov. 20, at Christ The King Lutheran Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
