Louis Lieberman, a beloved husband, died at Powell Valley Healthcare on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014. He was 97.

Louis was born on Jan. 13, 1917, in Boulder, Colo. He was the son of Zalman Abe Lieberman and Ida Tillie Ullman, who brought him to Cowley where he lived until they moved to Powell when Louis was 10 years old.

He graduated from Powell High School in 1936, then went to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, where he majored in business administration. Following this, he became a farmer of sugar beets and beans as well as raising sheep.

Near the end of World War II, Louis was inducted into the U.S. Army at the age of 28. He became a military policeman guarding American prisoners of war in North Camp Hood in Killeen, Texas. At war’s end, he was released from military service and returned to Powell, where he farmed with his mother and father.

In 1949 he took a vacation to Chicago to visit with friends. While there, he met Florence Mayer, whom he courted via mail and telephone conversations for a year until he returned to Chicago and married the love of his life on Armistice Day — Nov. 11, 1950.

The loving couple returned to Powell where they resumed farming and in time two children came into their lives: Scott, born Feb. 15, 1956, and Ellen, born Jan. 24, 1959.

Louis began working at the Powell Post Office and retired after many years.

He was the commander of the American Legion and also was very active in the Odd Fellows Lodge as well as an active member at the Powell Senior Center.

Louis loved his family and his hobby of raising flowers.

This quiet, loving man will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Thompson Funeral Home in Powell.

Arrangements are being made by Thompson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.thompsonfuneral.net or to P.O. Box 807 Powell, WY, 82435.
