Glenn A. Stutzman, 99, died Sept. 15, 2014, at the Powell Valley Care Center where he had been a resident for the last eight years.

Glenn Stutzman was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Cozad, Neb., the only child of John and Alma Bartlett Stutzman. He arrived in Powell on his first birthday when his parents homesteaded 4 1/2 miles north of Powell.

He went to school in Powell and graduated in 1933. He married his high school sweetheart, Daisy Kukuk, of Garland and bought a farm 5 miles north of Powell next to his father’s homestead.

They raised a son, John Max and a daughter Glenda.

Glenn was a longtime member of Union Presbyterian Church and served the church as an elder. He joined Absarokee Lodge #30 in 1936 and served as worshipful master in 1950. He belonged to Royal Arch, Masons, Constantine Knights Templar, Kefar Shrine Club and Kalif Shrine Temple of Sheridan. He was a life member of the Cody Elks Lodge and belonged to the Powell Eagles.

He served on the Powell school board from 1956-60 when the second Powell High School was built. He was Park County commissioner for 15 years from 1964-78.

Glenn farmed with his son John Max and later with his two grandsons, Jon Tod and Brett Stutzman. They formed a family corporation, Stutzman, Inc., and sold farm chemicals, Holly Beet Seed and Purina Chow. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and working jigsaw puzzles. In later years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling. Glenn was very generous to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his son John Max, daughter Glenda Powell of Arizona, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, whom he met this past summer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma Stutzman and his wife Daisy.

Memorials in Glenn’s name may be sent to the Union Presbyterian Church, 329 N. Bent, Powell, WY, 82435.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at the Union Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by Thompson Funeral Home.
